About Assignments
Assignments in Canvas are one of the most common and popular assessment options and involve creating a space where students can submit a file and from where lectures can review and mark the submissions.

Assignment Index Page
The Assignments page can be accessed from the module menu on the left by clicking on Assignments. You can use this index page to view all of the assessment items for your module.
Assignment Groups
You can also create Assignment Groups on this page to
categorise your assessment items, e.g. Assignments 1, Group
1 Assignments as well as weighting these assignment groups to
determine what percent of the total module mark they should account
for.
To create an assignment group simply click on "+ Group" button in the Assignment Index page. If you want to assign weighting to assignment groups, you can simply enter a value for "% of total grade". You can move assignments between groups by dragging and dropping them into the relevant group.
You can also create a new assessment item or modify the
settings for existing assessment items from the Assignments Index Page.
It is recommended that if you want to create a new assessment item i.e. an assignment or a quiz, that you do so via this the Assignment Index page.
