A clear and consistent document structure
can make your content easier to navigate
and understand. The in-built heading and
formatting tools in Canvas, MS Word, and
other text editors can be applied to your
content to create a meaningful outline,
improving people’s ability to scan the
content quickly and for screen readers to
navigate efficiently.
- Use the built-in heading styles in
your content editor
- Use heading levels in a logical order
and don’t skip headings
- Keep headings short, clear and
descriptive
- Don’t use heading styles for
decoration or to emphasise text within
a paragraph
- View the page or document outline to
check the structure (e.g. MS Word has
a navigation panel)
