The Zoom pre-defined breakout rooms feature allows you to set up the breakout rooms in advance of your meeting.

Note: Pre-assignment is limited to 200 users.

To set up pre-defined breakout rooms in Zoom, complete the following steps.

  1. Schedule your Zoom meeting in Canvas Scheduling your classes in Zoom.
  2. Under Meeting Options, select the Breakout Room pre-assign checkbox.
  3. Create the breakout rooms via the interface provided or import a CSV if you have large numbers. To retrieve the CSV template click Import from CSV.

Note: If using the template, don't forget to upload once filled in

  • You are now set up with pre-assigned breakout rooms and can begin your meeting


Hot Tip - If you have begun your Breakout Rooms and a student enters the meeting late, you will be able to see them in the waiting room and can admit them. Once admitted they will be asked to join their pre-assigned Breakout Room.
