Mark the Words

Mark the words allows instructors to create challenges where the learner is to select specific types of verb in a text. The learner chooses the words according to the task description and gets a score. For wrong answers, the user gets negative points.

For the instructor it is super easy to create a Mark the Words challenge.  The instructor types in the text and encloses the words that the user is supposed to click, the right answers, in asterisk like *correctword*

Mark the words can be used effectively in language learning exercises. For example, to create challenges where the user is to mark specific types of verbs in a text.

Accessing H5P in Canvas

You can access H5P in Canvas through the Rich Content Editor (RCE), which is accessible via the edit view of Page, Assignment, Discussion Board, Announcement and Quiz questions.

For this example, we will be adding H5P onto a Canvas page. The first thing you will need to do is either open the page you want to embed the H5P content into or create a new page. Then click the ‘Edit’ button which will open the RCE. (You will automatically go into edit mode if you create a new page.)

Next, you will need to locate H5P in the RCE toolbar by clicking on the H5P icon.

Mark the words editor should now appear. The editor looks like this:

Add a title

Add a title.  This will not be visible to your learners but can be used for searching, reports and copyright information.

Task description

In the Task description we give the learner basic instructions or introduce the problem to be solved.

We'll use this text for the Task description: Click the various types of berries mentioned in the text below!

Textfield

Under Textfield add the full text and define which words the learner needs to identify.

This is done by putting the word between asterisk like so: This is the *answer*.

If you need instructions on how to create the answers you can press the "Show instructions" button at any time and the instructions block will open. It looks like so:
