You can use the Vevox Canvas integration to create asynchronous quizzes or surveys that your students can access in their own time when they log onto Canvas and open your module.

To use Vevox in Canvas, complete the following steps:

  1. Once a Unit has been created in your module in the Units area, click the + icon on the right side of the module tab to open up the Add Item panel.
  2. Select External tool from the list.
  3. Click Vevox.
  4. Optional: If you have already created a Vevox session you want to use on https://mtu.vevox.com/ you can search for or select the session and add it.
  5. Click CREATE SESSION.
  6. Enter a session name in the Session name field and click CREATE.
  7. Select the session you have just created.
  8. To create a survey/quiz, click CREATE NEW above the Surveys heading. Enter a survey name in the Survey name field and click the tick icon Image Placeholder.
  9. Click on the survey/quiz that you just created.
  10. Select Anonymous if you want to allow students to be anonymous. This means that there will be no grading information. Select Identified if you want to be able to identify students. Names will be hidden for other participants but the participant's identity will be visible in the data reports and grading information will be available. Note: If you want scores in the gradebook to relate to correct answers you will need to open the session in https://mtu.vevox.com/ and add quiz questions. You can then return back to configure the session.
  11. Optional: If you select Identified, you have three scoring types that you can select from: Correct answers – This will create a column in the gradebook and students will be graded on the number of questions they answer correctly.  This option is only available if you have questions that have correct answers assigned to them. Participation – This will create a column in the gradebook and students will be graded on the number of questions that they provide an answer for, regardless of whether they answered correctly.  This option can be used for any type of questions you have. Combined - This option will create one single column in the gradebook with a combined score, where 50% of the score is for participation and 50% of the score from answering correctly.
  12. Optional: If you selected Identified, you can set LTI score syncing to Automatic or Manual. Automatic (recommended) - This means that scores are synced from Vevox to Canvas immediately when the activity is completed. Manual - This means that scores are never passed from Vevox to the Canvas gradebook unless you actively trigger the synchronisation yourself.  This is done from the data page in the Vevox dashboard.
  13. Click DONE then click Add item.
  14. Click on the assignment name to open the assignment and configure the other assignment options for the session. If the session isn't supposed to be graded, enter 0 in the Points field and select Do not count this assignment towards the final grade. Click Save.
  15. On the opened assignment, click OPEN IN NEW TAB. This will open the Vevox dashboard, where you can create your survey/poll. Click the Survey tab on the left of the screen. If you named the survey in Canvas, it's name will appear.
  16. Create your survey/quiz in Vevox. See Creating an asynchronous survey or quiz using Vevox for more information on creating surveys/quizzes in Vevox.
  17. At the top of the Vevox dashboard, click START SESSION
  18. Depending on whether you have made a survey or poll, click START SURVEY, or START QUIZ.
  19. When you are ready for your students to interact with the survey or poll, go back to the Canvas tab and publish both the unit and the assignment. Click Student View and view the assignment to ensure all is set up correctly.
