Zoom's captions feature allows you to provide students with an automatic transcript of what you or others are saying during a class. This is designed to support students who may have any auditory difficulties and ensure that they are included in the learning process.

To turn on Zoom's live transcript feature in class, complete the following steps.

  1. During a Zoom meeting, Show captions. If the option isn't visible, click More and then click Captions. You can not toggle between Show captions and Hide captions.
  2. If you want to adjust how the captions appears to students, click on the arrow to the right of Show captions in the menu in Zoom and select Caption settings.
  3. Optional: From here, you can identify how large or small the subtitles for the transcript should appear by clicking and dragging the Closed Caption slider towards Small or Large.
  4. Optional: Select the Always show captions checkbox to automatically turn on captions at the beginning of all your meetings.
  5. Optional: To download a copy of the transcript, click on the arrow to the right of Show captions and click View full transcript. Click Save transcript.

Zoom also automatically provides an audio transcript of recordings that you create. This appears for both you and students when you access your recording.
